Dishwasher Performance & Maintenance Tips

CLEAR THE SINK DRAIN

Run the garbage disposal before starting the dishwasher. This ensures the drain is clear so the dishwasher can empty efficiently during the wash cycle.

PREHEAT THE WATER AT THE SINK

Before turning on the dishwasher, run the hot water at the sink until it’s hot. The dishwasher needs water that’s at least 120°F for proper cleaning. Preheating ensures hot water enters the tub immediately, helping detergent dissolve effectively. Cold water can leave detergent residue and cause “pitting” on glassware or ceramics.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Scrape off large food particles before loading dishes. This helps prevent the spray arms and filters from clogging, which can reduce cleaning performance.

DON'T PREWASH THE DISHES

Modern dishwashers have sensors that adjust the wash cycle based on how dirty the water is. If dishes are pre-washed, the cycle may end too soon, leaving items less clean. Let the dishwasher do its job—washing your dirty dishes!

USE DRY (POWDER) DETERGENT

Dry detergents tend to clean better over time. Liquid detergents can lose effectiveness because the bleach they contain slowly breaks down the cleaning enzymes when stored.

LOAD DISHES CORRECTLY

Proper stacking is key to good results. Load large dishes along the outer edges of the rack and smaller items toward the center. This allows for better water circulation and maximizes cleaning performance.
